- The ACM-W will not be holding any events during summer quarter, but take a
look at what we did during the 2008-2009 school year:
- First Annual Game Tournament. Using the money from our generous sponsors, the ACM-W was finally able to host its first game tournament. Using four separate rooms in Scott Labs, we played games like Rock Band, DDR, Soul Caliber, Smash Brothers, and many others on huge projection screens. There were also board games and card games, and we raffled off several $15 and $25 gift cards to Target. There was TONS of pizza, and many students got to take home entire pizzas. There were about 50 in attendance throughout the night, and we'll most likely do a game tournament again next year. Thanks to everyone who came out and made it a great night!
- Guest Speaker Dennis Frailey of Raytheon. Dennis Frailey came and talked to us about how to get started with a career and computing and why entering the computing field is a good choice for women.
- Guest Speaker Terry Wiegmann. Terry Wiegmann, an ASQ Certified Software Quality Engineer and an Advanced Toastmaster, spoke to us about technical organizations and how they can help us in the job market.
- OCWIC: Ohio Celebration of Women in Computing. This conference, held biannually in different Ohio locations, was an excellent opportunity for women in the ACM-W to present their research and discuss their internship/co-op experiences. It was a great opportunity for many of our members to network and socialize with other women in the field of computer science.
- Employer Visit from 2Checkout. Every year, several employers come and discuss job opportunities with ACM-W students. This year, an e-commerce business called 2Checkout came and gave a presentation about their company and took applications for interns. This company, started by OSU graduates in 1999, came specifically to hire ACM-W members.
